When I tell Jed Mercurio that I felt bereft after the end of Line of Duty, he thanks me and jokes “Well, we do aim to leave people disappointed.” I’m talking about missing the communal viewing experience and frenzy of fan theories between episodes; he’s talking about a well-publicised outcry from some viewers that the finale’s ‘H’ mystery reveal was a let-down. Speaking on Zoom three weeks after Line of Duty concluded – perhaps for good – Mercurio has answered the finale’s critics his way....

You could say we’ve taken this too far. You could be right. You could also say that, for a Line of Duty fan attempting to solve the many mysteries of series six, it’s useful to have the hard facts at hand. How does the newly revealed “Fourth Man” suspect Marcus Thurwell fit into the timeline as we know it? What prompted him to take early retirement two years after he conspired to suppress the investigation into the racist murder of Lawrence Christopher?...

“Expectations for this weekend were low, but it still feels like a disappointment as it dropped 34% from last weekend and became the year’s third lowest grossing at the box office. Despite three wide releases, the overall box office dropped to $52.1 million, making this the worst weekend since January and the first weekend since May 2021 where no film grossed over $10 million. The newcomers failed to spark and the top film from last weekend took a massive plunge in the final weekend of August, and while the month outperformed August 2021 (which had a $418 million cume compared to this month’s $451 million with still a few days to go), September may bring us to box-office lows we haven’t seen since the late May 2021 summer kickoff....

According to statistics, the market of live video streaming is projected to reach US$184.3 billion by 2027. This is huge, and no doubt why there are so many live streaming tools available to get you live before your targeted audience through YouTube, Facebook Live, Instagram, Linked In Live, and so on. The demand for live streaming has increased even more due to the Covid-19 pandemic, forcing lockdowns on us. But the business has to go on....

Up until this point, most of the films released last year were filmed in 2019 or earlier, creating among them a bizarre alternate reality where these stories existed on screen. There was no COVID in their 2020, nor shutdowns, and certainly not a global economy standing still. And barring a few low-budget (but appealingly ambitious) “Zoom” horror movies, that’s the way things went until Doug Liman announced he was filming Locked Down in September: a romantic dramedy that Steven Knight wrote as a dare over the summer....

In the end, Lovecraft Country was all about legacy. The show follows Atticus “Tic” Freeman from estranged son and war vet to literal Magic Negro, and heir to a magical birthright. Tic, his father Montrose, friend-then-lover Letitia “Leti” Lewis, and her sister Ruby Baptiste become entangled with magic and the racist white folks who wield it. Tic seeks to understand and utilize the power inherent in his blood, and in doing so, is forced to face horror after horror in pursuit of his goal....

So where does the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen go next? At this point, there’s no clear word about the new show being a continuation of the Netflix series or a hard reboot. Likely, Marvel will split the difference. If so, the new Daredevil series could retain the cast and continuity, while eschewing its predecessor’s darker tone. If that’s the case, then comic books may be the best guide for future Daredevil stories…...

The game’s menu tells you that “in classic mode, the original 1-60 level range will be used instead of the new 1-30 level range. XP and talent points progression remains the same, but the number of levels is doubled.” It’s understandable the developers wanted to keep that menu explanation as concise as possible, but that brief summary of the differences between those options has also understandably raised some additional questions....

The beloved quiz show announced on August 11 that it had finally done the impossible and selected legendary host Alex Trebek’s replacement. In this case, it’s replacements. Jeopardy! executive producer Mike Richards will take over as the full time host of the syndicated series beginning with its 38th season. Meanwhile, fellow guest host and former Blossom and Big Bang Theory actress Mayim Bialik will also be involved with the show going forward....

Belgian DJ Dimitri Vegas also became a Sub-Zero skin and also recorded voice lines for the classic fighter for some reason. As you’d expect, Vegas’ delivery is bad but also hilarious in a “Why does this even exist?” kind of way. That’s not to say that all celebrity voice acting is bad in this game. In a truly inspired move, NetherRealm brought in Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa to play Shang Tsung as both the host of the game’s Krypt and as the first DLC character....

Based on King’s New York Times best-selling Bill Hodges Trilogy, the title character owes a debt to classic detectives. Brendan Gleeson brings a grizzled annoyance to his obsession over a case which will never go cold. Harry Treadaway’s serial killer Brady Hartsfield, aka Mr. Mercedes, the title character of the series, made an unexpected departure, but left Lou Linklatter (Breeda Wool) the keys to his wheels and some of his fondest memories....

Then we got Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Where many updates of old franchises simply take concepts and do a modern take on them, Revelation instead was a love letter to fans of the franchise. It wasn’t a reboot of He-Man, it was a continuation of the original show. It was filled to the brim with references and callbacks, both obvious and deep cut. This was a show that wasn’t just using nostalgia as a marketing tactic, it was actively courting its original audience and making something specific for them....

In writer-director Jordan Peele’s Nope, a brother and sister named OJ (Daniel Kaluuya) and Emerald (Keke Palmer) Haywood are struggling to keep their family business – which provides trained horses for Hollywood productions – afloat following the bizarre death of their father, Otis (Keith David), and studios’ increasing dependence on CG rather than real animals. The taciturn OJ (or Otis Jr.) wants to keep the business alive and hang onto the family ranch nestled in a remote California valley north of Los Angeles, while the more outgoing Emerald wants to somehow find a way to monetize their legacy as she pursues her own dreams of Hollywood fame....

Outer Range follows a rancher, Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin), fighting for his land and keeping his family together. Royal eventually stumbles upon a mysterious black void in a pasture on his property, coinciding with the arrival of Autumn (Imogen Poots), a strange drifter with some sort of spiritual connection to Abbott’s ranch. While the Abbott family copes with the disappearance of their daughter-in-law Rebecca, they are pushed further to the brink when a rival family, the Tillersons, try to take over their land....
